Finding a supermarket where the aisles are clean, the produce is fresh, and the quality of selection is generous has been a problem for the past few months. Given this, I am on a search for a great market out of the city to ride to on the weekend. A few weeks ago we went to Stew Leondards, it was great, but not really ‘high end’.
I decided to search out markets in Scarsdale figuring that a high end town would have a superior market. Up at the top of the list was DiCicci’s Market with 6 locations. Spread out across Westchester and its surrounds.
We took out our google maps, our good sam club rv trip planner and a few other tools and searched out each location to see what was around. Croton-on-Hudson won because they have a damn with a waterfall, two bakeries nearby and a DiCiccos on the way home.
At noon we set off from the city in the fog and drizzle, about an hour later we found ourselves at The Croton Gorge Park after driving over hills and dales, from highway to highway.. how would we get on without our GPS. We took a short walk, peaked into a big gated circle we assumed was a fountain in better times, enjoyed the spray and set off for lunch at Little Sorrento, 3565 Crompond Rd, Cortlandt, NY 10547. Had such good pasta with chicken and broccoli, and one with sausage. Just ordinary cheap Italian food.
And now, what we were waiting for . Baked By Susan, winner of the 2017 best chocolate chip cookie in westchester. I cant tell you yet how it was as we just tried a marble mini cupcake, good, a bit dry but delicious frosting. And then… yes, the Dessertist! What a great name and what a great shop. We bought all sorts of things and found ourselves chowing down on a chocolate chip taco stuffed with frosting… not to be believed!!
