HUNGARIAN NATIONAL BALLET

We walked across the park to get to the Koch Theater at Lincoln Center today. To our delight it was open and the Hungarian National Ballet was going to perform.

Three pieces the first, a couple, was fabulous. She with a stiffened body holding poses as he lifted and moved her. I know there was more to Trois Gnossiennes than that. But pare it down to a sentence and that’s what I saw. It was gentle and rhythmic with a piano on Stage

The second piece, Tango, didn’t impress. The dancers were technically perfect I suppose but it was uninspired, dragging. The costume was tango but neither the music nor the dance made a tango impression

And then the Black Cake dance. Where at the end the dancers were drunk on champagne
