For years I have been walking past this little restaurant on 64th Street between Madison and 5th Avenue. I walk past and see the tables down a few steps with their white tablecloths and I also think how nice it would be to eat there.
Well, tonight we did. And Altesi was fabulous. We shared a Caesar salad that was very good, two mains ( a gnocchi with duck ragu and a lamb). Then the weak part of the evening was the Chocolate Souffel – we enjoyed dit just the same.
It was a delightfully open restaurant with adequate space between tables. The Christmas decor was visible and charming, the service was impeccable ( our water glasses were never empty) and there was a nice crowd. The place was filling up by the time we left at 7.
