A ROUND OF SCULPTURE PARKS

We left the house bright and early, maybe 1:00 with a plan for a two hour drive or a three hour day bringing us back in plenty of time to pack a basket for dinner with YO-YO MA AND EMANUEL AXE.  well, the best laid plans or do they say

First stop lunch at Zinnias Dinette.  Under a big tent with a breeze blowing surrounded by a field of wildflowers we sat at our picnic table and enjoyed

fried fish , chicken, fries and garlic scapes Oh yay!   It was wonderful

We followed up lunch with a twisty drive to pick up dessert at green acres farm    A trio of warm chocolate chip cookies a garlic ciabatta and a corn muffin later we were back on the road to visit the taco ice sculpture garden

there are a hundred of these farms we pass every day, this one was recommended, if we stay long enough, we will start stopping at the others.

On the way we stopped to view a little damn, an old barn and a mid sized library

Oddities. At the side of this old locked up barn were random sculptures.

Left to my own I might stop 100 times on a day like today to take pictures of all the sights along the road. The crumbling barns, the Mountain View’s, the fields of flowers, even the silly signs but then we wouldn’t even get to  our first event of the day

As it is we had lunch, a market and the sculpture park before we had to head back but the Taconic Sculpture Park, really the home and creation of one artist, Roy Kanwit, was so the making of a fabulous day.

We drove up a steep semi paved road, around twists and up and up to pull into the drive of the 38 acre property and be welcomed by the artist himself sitting under a shade tree outside his house collecting 10 dollars per car for the right to wander.

We traipsed through a few acres filled with his various creations, a meadow, all overlooking a wide open view of the mountains.

At the top of the hill is a huge head.

you can climb inside, up to the top and wave.

We tried to take a selfie with a couple of dancing angels

As you can see, another amazing view.

As I sit here now on the lawns at tanglewood surrounded by thousands of people who are happy to be here, respectful of others, and so quiet when the music plays that you can hear a cooler open , though no one would dare

What a privilege, how grateful I am and lucky I feel

Yo-yo ma telling jokes about his old friend Emanuel axe to a raptured audience

If you have never been to Tanglewood know that it is a place where people make the most of the evening. Candelabras, flowers, tables, gorgeous food is set out all over tables people bring with them across the lawn.

Stars in the sky above, cool enough to wear a jacket, so much is right in my little world

There are two other things that we continuously are passing on our travels

Community or tiny libraries

And small cemeteries. This may have been the smallest up at the Taconic Sculpture Garden
