poutine and cake and the art museum

As I try to recreate all that we have done for the past week days seem to blur together… and I often feel like I am repeating myself… It’s amazing being out in the world again. After a year really and truly not leaving our house it seems to have taken no time at all to drop right back in where we left off. My mind is cloggier, if thats a word, juggling too many thoughts isn’t as easy to do when I am doing things… but we are maskless, shopping , dining and going about our days like we always did.

And most of going about our days is searching out lunch or/and dinner. The thing I suppose I missed most when I was locked up was a hamburger. And so , we sorted and googled and mapped and searched and came up with the Parkside Restaurant in Raleigh.

Now Raleigh differs from Chapel Hill , which is really just a college town with a Main Street, and Durham, which is a small city with a revitalizing center that has a bit of sprawl. We found our way to Parkside and as we parked the car I spotted a small shop. Call it ladies wear, or a dress shop, but it also carried trinkets and smelly things and I was enveloped by good smells and soft feels as I wandered in. Not ten minutes later did I emerge in a new blouse.. yippeeee! something soft and new and not arriving in a box. I had forgotten I missed this too.

We ordered Poutine which was very good. Floppy fries covered in sauce, topped with pulled pork and fried garlic cheese curds. Not good enough to go back for, nor was the burger, but it sure was good to be out.

Our goal was to make it to a place called art space, that never happened but we did make it to Edible Art Bakery located in one of those fake tow center malls that have been popping up everywhere. I ordered a cookie and a slice of vanilla cake. Two thumbs up – the vanilla cake was like a super good homemade cake and the cookie ( white chocolate butterscocth ) had just the right balance.

We also stoped at Groovy Duck Bakery which I will give a good review. The cupcake was great and 4 days later I am still spooning out little nibbles. The brownie was good, maybe too moist with too much going on. But absolutely worth the drive.

Somewhere in all of this I spotted a windmill of sorts out the window, we turned around, pulled into a parking lot and found ourselves at the NC Museum of Art. It had been our intention to come but its sold out this week for a bloom festival . It was too hot to get and walk what looked like wonderfully landscaped trails so we have added returning here to a list of things we must do.
